Sunday School
Trinity offers Christian education for Adults, Children and Youth.
* All Sunday School classes meet from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. *
Opportunities for Adults to Learn:
Sunday morning Adult Education takes place in the church Parlor, unless otherwise noted, beginning promptly at 9:45 a.m. and ending at 10:45 a.m.
September 20 - November 8 - This session will be a combination of lecture and workshops based on Practicing the Faith by Dr. Dorothy Bass.
Lectures will be given by Dr. Peter Hobbie on September 20, 27, November 1 and 8.
The workshops will be taught by Trinity members, Alex Coffin and Josh Durham, Amy Bynum and Susanne Reid, and Frank Davidson and Dick Opkyke on October 4, 11 and 25. The workshops will meet in Rooms 113, 116 and the Parlor.
Dr. Hobbie is a graduate of Davidson College, A.B., University of North Carolina, M.A, Virginia Commonwealth University, M.B.A., and Union Seminary in Virginia, D. Min, Ph.D. He is a Professor of Religion at Presbyterian College in South Carolina.
November 15 - December 13 - Dr. Douglas Oldenburg, Trinity’s Consulting Theologian, will teach Christian Faith and Economic Justice.
Opportunities for Children and Youth to Learn:
The fall Children’s Sunday School curriculum for most classes is We Believe. Throughout the fall, children will study Old Testament stories of God’s people as they encounter God in creation, the law and covenant relationship. Children will explore Israelite worship practices and study four Psalms: 148, 19, 23, and 150.
Twos & Threes - Room 115, Fellowship Bldg, taught by Suzanne Hair and Susan King. The curriculum is Little Lambs.
Fours & Fives - Rooms 213 and 214, Fellowship Bldg, taught by Claire Etheridge and Margaret Rowe.
Kindergarten & First Graders - Room 212, Education Bldg Rm 212, taught by Sandra Nutter and Molly Nutter and assisted with Reid Brawley and Vickie Davidson. Each class begins with Reta Phifer leading “Make a Joyful Noise” from 9:45 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Second & Third Graders - Room 215, Education Bldg, taught by Katherine Lambert and Phil Tappy. The curriculum is Old Testament Faith Stories. The goals are for children to enjoy and look forward to coming to Sunday School, have a basic knowledge of the most important stories in the Old Testament, know and understand various sections of the Bible, and to increase their understanding of Christianity and their faith in God. Some of the things we will do this year are: The Bible Pictionary Grand Championship, Coca-Cola 600 Bible Auto Race, trips to secret “catacombs”, nature walks, visits from Professor Backwards and Dumbdini the Bible Magician, Bible miniature golf, soccer and bowling, and memorizing and understanding Psalm 23 and Psalm 100.
Fourth & Fifth Graders - Room 214, Education Bldg, taught by Jeff O’Keefe and Jane Blount.
Middle and High School - Youth Center, taught by Marsha Nardone, Amy McAllister Shook, Wendy Smolen, Susan Stone, and Debbie Thompson. The curriculum is “Face to Face with Paul.”
